Michael Engel, dancer and choreographer, received $3,000 to support two weeks in Tempe, Arizona, to study with dancer/choreographer Daniel Nagrin. Engel will work with the choreographer on Nagrin's solo dances and learn Nagrin's solo Word Games.

Juanita Espinosa, Director of the Native Arts Circle, received $1,000 to attend the annual assembly of the Fifth World Assembly of Community Radio Broadcasters in Oaxtepec, Mexico. Special attention at the conference will be given to Native stations of the Americas. Among the offerings are seminars titled Native Radio in the Americas and Women in Community Radio. Espinosa hopes to make connections that will lead to wider dissemination of an interview project she's developing with Native grandmothers.

Photographer and educator David Goldes received $2,168 to spend a month at the Creative Imaging Center in Camden, Maine. Goldes will participate in an intensive workshop, with the goal of exploring the use of computer technology in photography. Using digital techniques, he plans to produce an expanded version of a recent photographic series.

ARTPAPER editor Jan Zita Grover received $2,500 to travel for three weeks in North and South Dakota. Grover intends to learn more about the region in which she lives, including art making in rural places. The trip will help acquaint her with the working conditions and challenges facing artists and arts organizations in those states.
