Sculptor ED ARCHIE NOISE CAT received a grant to travel for two weeks in Auckland, New Zealand, to attend a symposium of contemporary indigenous art.

Russell Packard, a teacher and musician, was awarded $3,706 to spend seven weeks in Amman, Jordan. There he'll study and perform at the Jerash Festival of Culture and the Arts at the National Music Conservatory.

SARAH PENMAN, a media producer, will travel to San Cristobal de Las Casas and Chiapas, Mexico, and Guatemala, for three months, to research, photograph and establish relationships with Mayan midwives to develop a documentary about their lives.

Performance Space 122, New York City, received a two-year grant of $29,000 to support a commissioning program for emerging performance artists in the 1995 and 1996 seasons. P.S. 122 is a performance laboratory committed to supporting the development of work by individual artists who create live art with an authentic vision. It is dedicated to finding, developing and bringing to the public's eye new artistic creations from a diversity of cultures, points of view, ages and sexual orientations. In 1994-95, Jerome-supported commissions enable P.S. 122 to support the creative processes of artists Eduardo Alegria, Salley May, Andrea Mills, David Newmann and Peggy Pettitt.

Filmmaker SUZAN PITT received a grant for 30 days of travel and study in New York City to work with composer John Zorn on an original soundtrack for her animated film Joy Street.

Esther Podemski received funding to produce House of The World, a documentary film focusing on the residues of everyday Jewish life in Poland following the catastrophic events of World War II. The film bears witness to the horrors of the War, and acts to reinscribe Jewish names in the records of a town that had nearly erased them.

A grant of $4,250 was awarded to Bharatanatyam choreographer, dancer and educator Ranee Ramsawamy to travel to India for a month. There she will join Twin Cities choreographer and tap dancer Joe Chvala to collect material and conduct research for a collaborative project based on "devadasi" or temple dances.

Musician Dan Rein received $3,850 to spend two months in Tehran, Iran. The purpose of the trip is to study Persian traditional music with two of the country's most respected performers.

A grant of $1,0000 was awarded to composer Phillip Rhodes for six days of travel to Portland and Eugene, Oregon. He'll attend rehearsals and workshops in those cities, in connection with the creation of a new work for The Third Angle new music ensemble.

Artist and University of Minnesota professor, THOMAS ROSE will travel for 30 days in Italy to complete work on a book.
