The Zenon Dance Company, Minneapolis, Minnesota, received a two-year grant of $36,000 to commission and perform new dance works by six emerging choreographers. In the 1994-95 season, commissions will be given to Bill Young, Robin Stiehm and a jazz choreographer yet to be selected. This grant marks the ninth consecutive year that the Foundation has awarded funds to Zenon to support choreographic residencies and commissions.

Adedjouma seeks a cultural exchange with black Australian women writers with whom she's been networking for the past two years. She plans to initiate collaborative writing and video projects with those artists.

Dancer/choreographer Sandy Agustin was awarded funding to spend six weeks in the Philippines studying Filipino dance in solo and duet form. The majority of her time will be spent with the Bayanihan Dance Troupe in Manila. Agustin's plan is to investigate as many dances as possible to blend into her modern dance vocabulary.

Musician Marc Anderson received a grant for seven weeks of travel in Ghana, Guinea and New York City. The travel period will be taken up with intense study of traditional West African and Afro-Caribbean drumming techniques. In Ghana, Anderson will continue his study and performance of traditional drumming; in Guinea, he'll establish connections for a longer stay in the future and, at the same time, study djembe and dzudzun drumming. In New York City, Anderson will study traditional Cuban and Haitian drumming.
