Writer Cheryl Nyland-Littig received $2,000 to spend a month in Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado. Nyland-Littig will visit three nuclear test sites to research and reflect on the affects of nuclear radiation on a cultural and personal level. She is working on a collection of stories exploring the life and death of a women against the political, social and ecological realities of the nuclear age.

Eduardo Sandoval, host and producer, Fresh Air Radio, Inc. was awarded a grant of $1,100 to attend the Fifth World Assembly of Community Radio Broadcasters conference in Oaxtepec, Mexico. The conference's theme is All the Voices, focusing on the role that community radio plays in the promotion, development and consolidation of the cultural identities of communities they serve. Sandoval hopes to attain skills to help give voice to Minnesota Hispanics and to organize Minnesota Chicano, Mexican and Latino community broadcast journalists. He intends to investigate what other community broadcasters are doing to develop community radio, especially for minorities who do not speak the dominant language.
