Writer Barbara Abel received support toward three-months of travel in Ecuador, Bolivia and Chil. Abel plans to research relationships between indigenous, mestizo and colonial cultures and their resulting struggles for indigenous lands. She expects the travel to deepen her understanding and appreciation of the differences between another cultures of the Americas and her own.

Dancer/choreographer Azande received funding to spend 90 days in New York City developing her skills through intensive study. She plans to take African dance classes at Lezley Dance and Skate School and Prowess Dance Arts Center. She'll take instruction from and observe rehearsals of the Movin' Spirits company, and work with filmmaker Amadou Ngom on a project documenting Senegalese dance.
