$20,000
CAVE CANEM FOUNDATION, Brooklyn, New York, received $20,000 in support of two multiple session workshops serving emerging poets based in New York City during the fall of 2015 and spring of 2016. The course consists of conventional and experimental poetry, free writing, body work, play, writing, revision and live presentation of new work for the community. The spring workshop, Writing across Cultures, led by Cathy Park Hong, challenges poets to push beyond their aesthetic comfort zone, writing in whatever ways the poem needs to be written—prayer, form, lament, ode, ars poetica, etc. — with the goal of developing an individual toolbox of language, image, voice and rhythm.
