ZENON DANCE, Minneapolis, Minnesota, received $36,705 in support of the development of a new movement work and educational residency at the Camargo Foundation, Cassis, France, as part of the Jerome@Camargo Program. Zenon Dance will develop a new work by choreographer Stefanie Batten Bland in collaboration with a French composer, engage with dance centers in the region, and conduct a one-week residency in the Cassis primary school. Zenon's mission is to sustain an artistically excellent, professional dance company in the Twin Cities by presenting the works of locally, nationally, and internationally recognized modern and Jazz choreographers to the broadest and most diverse audiences and communities possible, including those with disabilities. Zenon accomplishes this through performance, education, and outreach.

Zenon will commission, rehearse, and perform new works by six emerging choreographers. Zenon chooses to work with emerging choreographers because they bring excitement and risk to the company's repertory.

Zenon accomplishes this through performance, education, and outreach. A principal element of Zenons mission is to commission emerging choreographers to create new work, developing those pieces with company members. The works are then fully produced by Zenon.

Zenons mission is to sustain an artistically excellent, professional repertory dance company by presenting the commissioned works of emerging and locally, nationally, and internationally recognized modern and jazz choreographers to the broadest and more diverse audiences and communities possible. It accomplishes this through performance, education, and outreach. Jerome dollars enable Zenon to identify and commission three emerging choreographers each year to produce new works for the company. The choreographers benefit from individually designed residencies that focus on their needs and the services they require to create and set new works.

It accomplishes this through performance, education, and outreach. To date, with Jerome support, it's commissioned and worked with over 30 emerging choreographers. Zenon chooses to work with emerging choreographers because they bring a certain excitement and risk to their work. There is often close collaboration between the Zenon dancers and the commissioned choreographers.

The Jerome Foundation grant allows Zenon to select emerging choreographers based in Minnesota and New York City and commission them to create new works while in residence with the Company. These works are then presented on the Zenon season.

The mission of Zenon Dance Company and School is to sustain an artistically excellent, professional dance company in the Twin Cities by presenting the commissioned works of emerging and locally, nationally and internationally recognized modern and jazz choreographers to the broadest and most diverse audiences and communities possible. This repertory company has commissioned new works from over 30 choreographers, many of those with the support of the Jerome Foundation. The culmination of its 25th anniversary season will be this series of performances at Dance Theater Workshop.

It accomplishes this through performance, education and outreach. Nearly 70% of the company's yearly contracted time is devoted to the development of new work by emerging choreographers. Zenon chooses to work in this way because it brings excitement and risk to the aesthetic of the company. The process of creation is inspiring to the dancers, who are intelligent improvisers. Over two years, six emerging choreographers will be given opportunities to create new works for Zenon.

Zenon has a long history of receiving Jerome Foundation support for the commissioning and performance of new dance work by emerging choreographers. Among those to be commissioned over the course of the next two seasons are Keely Garfield, Jeanine Durning, and Wynn Fricke.

Choreographers are selected by Artistic Director Linda Andrews and will include, during the duration of this grant, Wynn Fricke, Mark Haim, Keely Garfield, Tere OConnor and Mathew Janczewski.

Three emerging choreographers per year are supported in this program.

This is one of the few companies which performs both modern and jazz. Jerome Foundation support will allow Zenon to commission new works from six emerging choreographers.
