NEW YORK LIVE ARTS, New York City, received $12,000 to support a commission given to choreographer Rashaun Mitchell for his new work before my eyes. New York Live Arts is an internationally recognized destination for innovative movement-based artistry, offering audiences access to art and artists notable for their conceptual rigor, formal experimentation, and active engagement with the social, political, and cultural currents of our time. New York Live Arts commissions, produces, and presents performances in its theater and two studios. Rashaun Mitchell is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. He danced with Merce Cunningham from 2004 to 2012. A Studio Series participant the previous year at New York Live Arts, Mitchell will bring his new work to the mainstage this season, receiving a commission, rehearsal time, technical residency, and performance fee.
